Holy Mary, Mother of God

Today is a very special day.  It's a holy day in which we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

We began 2015 by attending Mass this morning.  Mass was beautiful, and Father's homily was very good.  I was going write about parts of Father's homily in today's blog, but I think I'll save those ideas for another day.

Instead of a reflection of why Mary is a wonderful role model for me, I want to post a picture of a holy card that I keep by my desk.  I love holy cards.  Not only is some of the artwork absolutely gorgeous, but the images and prayers on the holy cards are inspiring.

This holy card is one of my favorites.  There's a lovely prayer* on the reverse side that I'll type below.

A Mother's Prayer
Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day
With little time to stop and pray
For life's been anything but calm
Since You called me to be a mom
Running errands, matching socks
Building dreams with buidling blocks
Cooking, cleaning, and finding shoes
And other stuff that children lose
Fitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs
A stack of last week's mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?
Yet when I steal a minute, Lord
Just at the sink or ironing board
To ask the blessings of Your grace
I see then, in my small one's face
That You have blessed me
All the while and I stop to kiss
That precious smile.

Amen.  Amen to all of that!

When I find myself in a moment, when it feels like life is too hectic, and when I forget to let go and let God, all I need to do is stop, pick up one of the many holy cards we have, and say the prayer on the back of the card.  Things may not automatically turn around for the better, but carving out a moment to calm down, to quietly reflect, and to pray does help.

To all the moms out there who find themselves needing an extra prayer today, may God bless you. May He bless you today and always.
